Shiv Sena Leader Defends Actions After Doctor Assault Video Goes Viral

A viral video showing Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre allegedly assaulting a woman doctor at a hospital in Kalyan-Dombivli has sparked widespread criticism.

Responding to the controversy, Mhatre denied attacking the doctor and claimed he had only struck her mobile phone because she was not listening to his complaint. He maintained that he had done nothing wrong and refused to apologise.

According to hospital authorities, the dispute began after a pregnant woman's family was informed that no NICU beds were available and they might need to shift the newborn to another hospital.

The video shows the doctor attempting to use her mobile phone while moving away from a group of people. Moments later, Mhatre appears to hit her hand, causing the phone to fall, before further commotion breaks out inside the hospital.

Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde condemned the incident, calling the assault on doctors and medical staff unacceptable. He said healthcare professionals work under challenging conditions and deserve protection.

Shinde confirmed that a police case has been registered and assured that strict legal and party-level action would be taken against anyone found responsible.
