UN Finds RSF Committed Genocide in Sudan’s Darfur Region
A United Nations Fact-Finding Mission has concluded that Sudan&39;s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) committed genocide in the city of el-Fasher in the Darfur region. The report states that the paramilitary group carried out systematic mass killings, gang rapes and deliberate starvation as part of a coordinated campaign against civilians. According to the investigation, the RSF imposed a prolonged siege on el-Fasher, blocked humanitarian aid, destroyed food production systems and intentionally deprived civilians of essential supplies. Survivors also described horrific incidents of sexual violence committed after family members had been killed. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk warned that a similar humanitarian catastrophe could now unfold in el-Obeid, where reports of summary executions, abductions, torture and sexual violence are increasing. The RSF has rejected the allegations, calling them fabricated by its opponents. Meanwhile, the UN has urged the international community to take urgent action to prevent further atrocities in Sudan.
