Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway Cuts Travel Time, Full Journey Still Longer

The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway has been opened for public use, making travel between the two cities faster and more convenient. However, while the expressway section itself takes only 45 minutes to cover, additional time is required to reach the expressway from the city and to enter Kanpur after exiting it.

The journey started from Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, at 10:19 AM. Due to city traffic and signals, it took 44 minutes to reach the expressway entry point near Amausi Airport.

Once on the 63-km expressway, the vehicle maintained an average speed of around 100 km/h and completed the stretch in exactly 45 minutes. The expressway ends near Azad Chowk in Kanpur.

After exiting the expressway, it took another 19 minutes to reach Ramadevi Chowk. As a result, the total journey of nearly 100 kilometres from Gomti Nagar to Ramadevi Chowk was completed in about 1 hour and 48 minutes.

The expressway features a barrier-free toll collection system, where AI-enabled cameras and FASTag readers automatically detect vehicles and deduct toll charges without stopping traffic.

The route also includes CCTV surveillance, emergency calling booths, safety fencing, signboards and AI-based traffic monitoring. Six interchanges have been developed for convenient entry and exit.

Food plazas and fuel stations are not yet operational, although land has already been allocated for these facilities.
