Concerns over the health of education reform advocate and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk have intensified as his indefinite hunger strike at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar continues. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has now been filed before the Delhi High Court, urging immediate judicial intervention and medical assistance.

The petition states that Wangchuk’s health has significantly deteriorated due to his prolonged fast. According to the plea, he has lost a considerable amount of weight and his blood pressure has dropped, raising serious concerns about his physical condition. The petitioner argued that continued fasting without medical intervention could put his life at risk.

The PIL requests the court to direct the Central Government, the Delhi Government and the concerned authorities to ensure that Wangchuk receives immediate medical examination and treatment. It further seeks appropriate steps, if medically required, to protect his life and health.

Sonam Wangchuk has been participating in an ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators are raising concerns over alleged irregularities in the education system and demanding accountability from the authorities. The protest has continued for several weeks, with Wangchuk remaining on an indefinite hunger strike.

Medical updates shared by those associated with the protest indicate that his health has weakened considerably. Doctors monitoring his condition have reported a noticeable drop in blood pressure and significant weight loss. Medical experts have cautioned that an extended hunger strike may lead to severe health complications if not addressed in time.

Addressing supporters, Wangchuk appealed to citizens not to depend on a single individual to lead change. He also called upon supporters to join the proposed march to Parliament in large numbers.
