Weather conditions have started changing once again across Uttar Pradesh as monsoon activity gradually strengthens. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for 36 districts, warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds reaching 40–50 kmph and lightning in districts including Lucknow, Amethi, Barabanki, Hardoi, Rae Bareli, Sitapur and Unnao.
Continuous rainfall in the Himalayan region has caused water levels of the Ganga, Yamuna, Saryu and Ghaghara rivers to rise significantly.
In Varanasi, rising water levels have submerged the lower steps of Dashashwamedh Ghat. Authorities said the river remains well below the danger mark and there is no immediate threat.
In Prayagraj, water has reached shops located near the ghats, while Kanpur authorities have opened several gates of the Ganga Barrage to regulate increasing river flow. In Mathura and Vrindavan, rising Yamuna water levels have submerged several steps at Keshi Ghat, forcing authorities to suspend riverfront construction work.
Riverbank erosion has intensified in Ballia district, where nearly 150 families have started relocating to safer places.
Heavy rainfall also caused waterlogging in Barabanki, Lucknow and Sitapur. Agra, Ayodhya, Bareilly and Sambhal remained cloudy, with intermittent rainfall expected over the coming days.
According to weather experts, dry winds from the northwest have weakened monsoon activity across much of Uttar Pradesh. However, a strengthening low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to revive rainfall after July 17.
Meteorologists describe the current phase as a temporary "Monsoon Break," meaning rainfall has slowed for a short period but the monsoon season remains active and is expected to strengthen again.
