A protest march towards Parliament in New Delhi on Monday led to increased security arrangements around the Parliament complex. Authorities strengthened security and deployed additional personnel after protesters attempted to move closer to the Parliament premises.
Police took action to stop the advancing crowd, and the situation remained tense for some time before the gathering dispersed.
Meanwhile, movement founder Abhijeet Deepke announced the end of his hunger strike, stating that discussions with the government had begun. He appealed to supporters to temporarily suspend the protest march until the talks conclude.
A delegation from the movement met government representatives. During the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also met Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. One of the major demands raised by the protesters is the resignation of the Education Minister.
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk requested hospital authorities to discharge him so that he could participate in the Parliament march.
Separately, Wangchuk's wife Geetanjali J. Angmo approached the Delhi High Court regarding his treatment and medical consent rights.
Delhi Police denied reports circulating on social media claiming violence or mass detentions, stating that the situation was handled professionally and peacefully. Citizens were urged not to believe rumours.
Several Metro stations in central Delhi were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure. Police stated that no official permission had been granted for the protest march.
