New Delhi:The controversy surrounding the NEET paper leak has intensified, with student protests turning into a major political confrontation. Congress leaders staged a demonstration outside the Prime Minister's residence to protest police action against students.
During the protest, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, and several other leaders were detained by Delhi Police. Rahul Gandhi was taken to Chhatrasal Stadium, while Priyanka Gandhi was taken to Mandir Marg Police Station. Both leaders were released later in the evening.
After his release, Rahul Gandhi placed five major demands before the central government. He sought the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He also demanded action against police personnel involved in the baton charge on students, withdrawal of all cases registered against protesting students, a public apology from the Prime Minister over the police action, an immediate discussion in both Houses of Parliament, and comprehensive reforms in the examination and education system.
Rahul Gandhi questioned why paper leaks continue to occur repeatedly and why education has become increasingly expensive for families. He said students deserve transparency, accountability, and meaningful reforms.
Responding to the allegations, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the government is ready for a detailed discussion in Parliament but accused the opposition of choosing political confrontation over constructive debate. He stated that students should not be used as political tools and reaffirmed the government's commitment to addressing concerns related to NEET and implementing necessary reforms.
