New Delhi: Delhi Police has stepped up security arrangements at the ongoing CGP protest at Jantar Mantar by deploying Facial Recognition System (FRS) cameras across the protest site and surrounding areas.
According to police officials, images captured by these cameras are being matched with the department's existing database to identify individuals who may have previous criminal records or are wanted in pending cases.
Police sources claim that more than 2,000 people with prior criminal records have been identified through the FRS system during the protest. However, authorities have not stated that all of those identified have committed any offence during the current protest or that action has been taken against each individual.
Officials said the verification process is ongoing and that security agencies are closely monitoring activities to prevent any disturbance to law and order. The use of FRS technology is intended to help identify wanted persons or individuals who may pose a security risk in large public gatherings.
Following recent incidents of violence linked to the protest, police have increased surveillance, deployed additional personnel, and strengthened digital monitoring across the area.
Authorities said data collected through the surveillance system is being continuously analysed, and any further action will be taken in accordance with legal procedures. Independent verification of the police claims is not currently available.
