Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has approached the Bombay High Court over alleged defamatory social media posts and deepfake content linked to the government's E20 ethanol-blended fuel policy. He claimed that the content circulating online is misleading and has harmed his personal and public reputation.
Gadkari sought the court's permission to initiate civil proceedings against Meta, X, Google, and other concerned entities. The High Court has granted permission to proceed with the civil suit, allowing the matter to move forward through legal channels.
According to the petition, several social media posts falsely claim that Gadkari and his family have financially benefited from the E20 fuel programme. He has denied the allegations and described them as baseless and misleading.
The petition also states that the E20 ethanol-blended fuel policy is administered by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Therefore, linking him personally to the policy and alleging financial gain is factually incorrect.
Gadkari has urged the court to take appropriate legal action against those responsible for creating and circulating the alleged defamatory and manipulated content, arguing that such material has damaged his reputation.
