Rahul Gandhi Targets Amit Shah, Demands Supreme Court-Monitored Probe Into Police Action

New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi intensified his criticism of the Union government over the police action against student protesters, alleging that the administration is attempting to avoid accountability instead of addressing the concerns raised by students.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Rahul Gandhi questioned why the government appeared reluctant to support an independent investigation. He reiterated his demand for a Supreme Court-monitored probe, arguing that a transparent inquiry would help establish accountability and restore public confidence.

According to Rahul Gandhi, merely promising strict punishment for those responsible for examination-related irregularities is not enough. He said lasting solutions require comprehensive reforms in the country's examination system, including stronger safeguards against paper leaks, greater transparency, and institutional accountability.

The Congress leader also criticized the government's handling of student demonstrations, alleging that excessive police force was used against peaceful protesters. He stated that democratic societies must protect the right to peaceful protest and ensure that students are heard rather than suppressed.

Rahul Gandhi further claimed that the recurring controversies surrounding competitive examinations indicate deeper systemic problems that cannot be resolved through isolated legal action alone. He called for reforms in examination administration, security protocols, and oversight mechanisms to prevent future incidents.

The government has maintained that investigations into examination-related offences are continuing under the law and that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty. It has also stated that measures to strengthen the examination process are under consideration.

Student organisations have likewise demanded an impartial investigation, improved examination security, and greater transparency in recruitment and entrance examinations. Opposition parties continue to raise the issue both inside and outside Parliament, pressing the government to ensure accountability and implement structural reforms.

The political debate over the issue is expected to continue as discussions on examination reforms and police action remain at the centre of national attention.
