A major development has emerged in the alleged attack attempt on Independent MP Pappu Yadav at his official residence in New Delhi. Delhi Police has released the main accused, Sumit, on a personal bond while continuing its investigation into the case. Officials said he can be called again for questioning if required.
The incident took place on August 2 during a press conference at Pappu Yadav's residence. According to the allegations, Sumit entered the premises on the pretext of meeting the MP. During the press briefing, a heated argument reportedly escalated into chaos, followed by a slipper being thrown and an alleged attempt to attack the MP with a knife. Supporters present at the venue overpowered the accused and handed him over to the police.
Police sources said Sumit works in the scrap business in Ghaziabad and had come to Delhi with another person identified as Happy. Investigators believe the accused located the MP's residence through a Google search. Police also stated that Sumit changed his statements during questioning. Efforts are underway to trace the second accused, Happy.
Meanwhile, Sumit's family has denied the allegations. His mother claimed that he had left home for work and said the family does not know how he reached Delhi. They have demanded a fair and impartial investigation.
Following the incident, Pappu Yadav alleged that it was an attempt on his life and said he had been receiving repeated death threats. He also raised concerns over his security. Delhi Police has maintained that the investigation is continuing from all angles and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
