The student protest in Ranchi over alleged paper leaks and irregularities in JPSC and JSSC competitive examinations intensified on Monday during the planned Assembly gherao. Protesters marching toward the Jharkhand Assembly crossed the seventh police barricade, leading to heightened tension between the students and security personnel.
A large number of students moved beyond Yogoda College while attempting to reach the Assembly. The administration had installed multiple layers of barricading along the route to prevent protesters from entering restricted areas.
Despite the security arrangements, protesters continued moving forward and eventually crossed the seventh barricade. Following the breach, police deployed water cannons to stop the advancing crowd.
Tension Escalates Near the Final Barricade
The situation became tense after protesters crossed the seventh barricade. The large gathering of students split into several groups, with some attempting to move toward the Assembly while others continued protesting at different points along the route.
Police personnel were deployed to prevent the protesters from advancing further. Officers repeatedly appealed to the students to remain peaceful and maintain law and order.
During the confrontation, there were reports of protesters throwing footwear toward the police. Stone-pelting was also reported at the site. A police personnel reportedly suffered a head injury after being hit during the stone-pelting.
Police also carried out a mild baton charge in an attempt to push the protesters back. Reports indicated that some other police personnel were also injured during the confrontation.
Water Cannons Used to Stop Protesters
As the protesters continued to move beyond the barricades, police used water cannons to disperse and stop the advancing crowd.
Senior police and administrative officials continued appealing to the protesters not to cross the security barriers and to raise their demands peacefully.
The authorities said the restrictions around the Assembly area were necessary to maintain security and prevent any untoward incident. Additional police personnel were deployed as the situation became more challenging.
Protesters Split Into Several Groups
After crossing the seventh barricade, the protesters were seen moving in different groups. While one group attempted to proceed toward the Assembly, others remained at different locations and continued raising slogans and pressing their demands.
The division of the crowd into several groups increased the challenge for the police, as security personnel had to monitor movement at multiple points simultaneously.
Additional teams were deployed to strengthen the security arrangements. Police officials continued monitoring the situation and attempting to prevent protesters from moving further toward the restricted area.
Drone Surveillance Intensified
Security agencies also used drone cameras to monitor the movement of protesters. The aerial surveillance was aimed at tracking the location and movement of different groups participating in the Assembly march.
Police and administrative teams remained positioned at key points along the route. Authorities continued assessing the situation and coordinating the deployment of additional personnel wherever required.
The administration's priority was to prevent the situation from escalating further while maintaining security around the Assembly complex.
Assembly Gherao Over JPSC-JSSC Exam Issues
The protest has been organized over allegations of irregularities and paper leaks in competitive examinations conducted by JPSC and JSSC.
Student groups have been demanding greater transparency and fairness in the recruitment examination process. They have also raised demands for investigation into alleged irregularities, a CBI probe and cancellation of certain examinations.
The Assembly gherao was called as part of the continuing student movement. A large number of students joined the demonstration in Ranchi.
Police and Administration on High Alert
The police and administration had already been placed on high alert ahead of the Assembly demonstration. Multiple layers of barricading had been installed along the routes leading toward the Assembly, while additional security personnel were deployed.
However, the situation became more challenging after protesters crossed several security barriers.
Police officials repeatedly appealed to the protesters to maintain peace and cooperate with the authorities. Senior officers remained present at the site while additional forces were deployed to control the situation.
Protesters Continue to Press Their Demands
The protesting students have maintained that their movement will continue until their key demands are addressed. Their primary concerns relate to alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations and the need for an impartial investigation.
The administration, meanwhile, is attempting to maintain law and order and prevent protesters from entering restricted areas around the Assembly.
The situation in Ranchi remains tense as police continue trying to stop protesters from moving further, while students remain determined to press ahead with their Assembly gherao. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking measures to prevent further escalation.
