Tamil Nadu MLAs May Get Cars, Allowances and Health Cover

Additional support for secretarial work

The package reportedly includes another Rs 25,000 per month for hiring a secretary. This calculation does not include the purchase cost of vehicles, insurance, drivers' salaries, vehicle-related expenses or the cost of the proposed health insurance coverage.

The issue is significant because legislators require adequate resources to perform their public duties, but government spending must also remain accountable and transparent.

If the reported package is formally implemented, the government would need to clarify the total financial burden, eligibility criteria, vehicle procurement process, insurance conditions and mechanisms for monitoring expenditure.
