CBI to Probe Disha Salian Death Case After Bombay HC Order

The death of Disha Salian, the former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has returned to the spotlight after a significant order by the Bombay High Court. The court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death.

The order was passed during the hearing of a petition filed by Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian. Through the petition, he had raised questions about the circumstances of his daughter’s death and sought a fresh and detailed investigation into the matter.

According to the court’s directions, the CBI will initiate the required legal process, including registration of an FIR, and record the statement of Satish Salian. Mumbai Police has also been directed to hand over all relevant documents and records connected with the case to the CBI.

What Did the Court Direct?

The High Court issued several directions concerning the investigation. It made it clear that no person should be treated as an accused merely on the basis of allegations or suspicion. Any action against an individual would have to be based on material or evidence that emerges during the investigation.

The court also provided for a situation in which the CBI does not find sufficient evidence of an offence. In such a case, the agency may submit a summary report before the appropriate court. Satish Salian would have the liberty to challenge such a report through the legal process.

 How Did Disha Salian Die?

Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, in Mumbai’s Malad area after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building. Mumbai Police had registered a case of accidental death and the initial investigation treated the incident as a suspected suicide.

The circumstances surrounding her death subsequently became the subject of public debate and controversy. The case received additional attention after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, with various claims being made publicly about a possible connection between the two incidents.

However, claims and allegations surrounding the case need to be distinguished from established facts. The new CBI investigation is expected to examine the circumstances and available evidence afresh.# What Did Disha Salian’s Father Claim?

Satish Salian had approached the High Court questioning the earlier understanding of his daughter’s death. His petition sought an independent and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

During the proceedings, serious allegations were presented on behalf of the petitioner. His lawyer claimed that Disha had allegedly been sexually assaulted and murdered and that there had been an attempt to conceal or manipulate evidence in order to protect influential individuals.

These claims remain allegations made in the petition and have not been established as facts. The purpose of the CBI investigation will be to examine the available material and determine what actually happened.

 Demand Concerning Aaditya Thackeray

The petition filed by Disha Salian’s father also sought the registration of an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray. The demand was made in the context of the allegations and claims raised by the petitioner.

With the investigation now being handed over to the CBI, these aspects may also come under scrutiny as part of the agency’s investigation. The agency may examine previous records, statements, available evidence and other material connected with the case.

Mumbai Police to Hand Over Records

Following the High Court’s order, Mumbai Police will have to provide the relevant case records and documents to the CBI. These records may include material collected during the initial investigation and other documents connected with the incident.

The CBI can review the earlier investigation, examine witnesses and assess the available evidence as part of its fresh probe. Any conclusion regarding criminal liability, however, will depend on the evidence that emerges during the investigation.

 What Happens Next?

The next stage will involve the CBI initiating the investigation in accordance with the High Court’s directions. The agency will be required to register an FIR as directed, record the statement of Satish Salian and examine the material handed over by Mumbai Police.

If evidence of an offence is found, further legal action may follow in accordance with law. If the investigation does not establish any criminal offence, the CBI may submit a summary report before the appropriate court.

The case has therefore entered a fresh investigative phase, and the findings of the CBI investigation will be significant in determining what happened in connection with Disha Salian’s death.
