The flood situation in Bihar has continued to expand, increasing difficulties for both residents and the administration. More than 47 lakh people across 15 districts have been affected by the floods. The situation has spread across 88 blocks and 561 panchayats, disrupting normal life in several areas.

With a large population affected, ensuring adequate food, drinking water, medicines and other essential supplies has become a major challenge for the authorities. Relief and rescue operations have therefore been intensified across the affected regions.

To provide regular meals to flood-affected residents, the number of community kitchens has been increased to 1,194. These kitchens are being used to provide two meals a day to around 52 lakh people.

District administrations have been instructed to ensure that no flood-affected family faces a shortage of food. Authorities have also been asked to increase the number of community kitchens wherever the requirement grows.

Community kitchens have become an important part of the relief operation, particularly in areas where families have been forced to leave their homes or are unable to access regular food supplies because of flooding.

The floods have also affected a large number of livestock. Ensuring adequate supplies of green and dry fodder has become an important part of the relief effort.

The concerned department has been directed to maintain a continuous supply of fodder in flood-affected areas. Necessary medicines for animals are also being arranged.

Prolonged exposure to floodwater and unhygienic conditions can increase the risk of infections and diseases among livestock. Veterinary teams are therefore being kept active and monitoring is being strengthened in affected areas.

Relief supplies being delivered through boats

Flooding has disrupted road connectivity in several locations, making it difficult to transport relief material through normal routes. Authorities are using boats and other available means to reach families living in areas where road access has been affected.

District administrations have been directed to make maximum use of locally available resources and speed up relief operations. Priority is being given to areas where floodwaters are high and normal transportation has become difficult.

Focus on medicines and essential services

Flood conditions can increase the risk of waterborne diseases and infections. Maintaining adequate supplies of essential medicines is therefore another key component of the relief operation.

Authorities are being asked to monitor health-related requirements in affected areas and arrange medical assistance wherever necessary. The overall focus remains on protecting residents, providing timely assistance and maintaining essential services during the flood situation.

15 districts affected by floods

The affected districts include Buxar, Bhojpur, Patna, Vaishali, Saran, Begusarai, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Madhepura, Samastipur and Arwal.

Relief operations face growing pressure

As the number of affected people continues to rise, the pressure on relief arrangements is also increasing. Providing food, ration, medicines and other essential supplies to such a large population remains a major challenge.

At the same time, arrangements for livestock fodder and veterinary care are also necessary. Authorities are focusing on reaching vulnerable families, maintaining essential services and accelerating relief and rescue operations in severely affected areas.
