A police team was allegedly attacked with bombs during a raid at a suspected gambling den in Khandera village under Salar police station limits in Murshidabad district, West Bengal, on Sunday night.
The incident left Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sadeq Ali seriously injured. Following the attack, he was rushed to Murshidabad Medical College Hospital in Berhampore, where he is undergoing treatment.
According to police, information had been received about the alleged operation of a gambling den in Khandera village. Acting on the information, a police team reached the area at night to conduct a raid.
Police officials said that as the team reached the suspected gambling location, some people present there allegedly began fleeing from the spot. It is alleged that some of them then threw bombs towards the police personnel.
During the attack, ASI Sadeq Ali was reportedly caught in the blast and suffered serious injuries. He was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Injured Police Officer Hospitalised
The injured police officer was taken to Murshidabad Medical College Hospital in Berhampore shortly after the incident. Further details regarding his medical condition are awaited.
Following the attack, senior police officials took note of the incident and initiated an investigation. Authorities are trying to determine how many people were present at the suspected gambling den and who may have been involved in the alleged attack.
