Indian celebrities stood out by blending cultural heritage with contemporary design, presenting a unique identity on the international stage.
Karan Johar
Karan Johar made his debut at the Met Gala this year, marking a significant moment for Indian cinema on the global fashion stage. He wore a custom outfit designed by Manish Malhotra, inspired by the works of Raja Ravi Varma. The ensemble featured flowing drapery, gold accents and hand-painted details, translating classical Indian art into modern couture. Johar described the look as deeply personal, reflecting the visual culture he grew up with.

Isha Ambani
Isha Ambani highlighted Indian craftsmanship with a custom sari by Gaurav Gupta. The outfit featured gold-thread work and intricate embroidery, paired with a diamond-studded bodice and statement jewellery. Her look combined traditional textile techniques with a contemporary silhouette, presenting Indian luxury on a global platform.

Natasha Poonawalla
Natasha Poonawalla wore a sculptural creation by Marc Quinn titled Orchid Pectoral, layered over a couture gown by Dolce & Gabbana. The piece, crafted in lightweight resin, created a dramatic, armour-like effect across her chest. The flowing white gown beneath added contrast, balancing structure with fluidity. Her look was completed with diamond jewellery and a minimalist makeup style.
Ananya Birla
Ananya Birla made a bold debut in a black couture outfit by Robert Wun. The sharply structured design was paired with a metallic face mask created by Subodh Gupta. The mask became the focal point, adding an artistic and unconventional dimension to the ensemble.
Manish Malhotra
Manish Malhotra also attended the event, wearing a traditional bandhgala with a cape inspired by Mumbai. The outfit featured intricate embroidery techniques such as dori, zardozi, chikankari and kasab. He described the look as a reflection of his journey and the artisans who contribute to his work.
Gauravi Kumari and Sawai Padmanabh Singh
Gauravi Kumari wore a gown incorporating a sari once owned by her grandmother, Maharani Gayatri Devi, bringing a sense of legacy to the red carpet. Meanwhile, Sawai Padmanabh Singh wore an embroidered coat rooted in Rajasthani craftsmanship. Both represented Jaipur’s royal heritage with a modern interpretation.
Sudha Reddy
Sudha Reddy chose an outfit inspired by the Tree of Life motif from Kalamkari traditions. The ensemble featured detailed zardozi and resham embroidery, symbolising Indian cultural narratives. She described her look as a reflection of Hyderabad and its influence on her identity.
The event also featured global celebrities such as Anne Hathaway, Margot Robbie, Sydney Sweeney, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Blake Lively, making the Met Gala 2026 a truly global celebration of fashion and culture.
