Varanasi Daalmandi Widening Drive: Sixteen Buildings Face Demolition
The Daalmandi road widening project in Varanasi has entered a crucial phase as authorities announced the demolition of 16 buildings whose registration and acquisition processes have been completed. Public announcements were made through loudspeakers, directing occupants to vacate the identified structures immediately.

Officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) carried out measurements of the marked buildings and placed red markings on the properties slated for demolition. During the inspection, discussions and disagreements were reported between local shopkeepers near the Langda Hafiz Mosque market area and officials.

To accelerate the operation, a new excavator machine has been deployed in the narrow lanes of Daalmandi. PWD engineers, police personnel, and administrative officials were present during the announcement and inspection process.

Authorities stated that old and structurally weak buildings are being prioritized for demolition. The widening project aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve vehicle movement, and enhance overall infrastructure in one of Varanasi’s busiest commercial areas.

While many residents and traders have welcomed the project for its expected traffic benefits, some property owners have expressed concerns about the impact of demolition on their businesses and livelihoods. Officials say future development plans will be implemented after the completion of the widening work.
