Sitamarhi: A major liquor smuggling operation was uncovered in Bihar's Sitamarhi district after police seized 3,576 litres of foreign liquor hidden inside a truck.
The incident took place near Budhnagara Old Market in Bokhra police station area, close to the Aurai border of Muzaffarpur district. The truck was found parked under suspicious circumstances, with no driver or staff present at the scene.
Local residents initially believed the vehicle was carrying liquor and began removing cartons from the truck. However, the cartons contained Fruity juice rather than alcohol. Reports suggest that around 20 cartons of juice were taken away before police arrived.
Upon inspection, investigators discovered that the truck had been specially modified. Layers of Fruity juice cartons were stacked on top to conceal a hidden compartment underneath where the liquor was stored.
Bokhra Station House Officer Lalan Kumar said police recovered 100 cartons of Fruity juice and 3,576 litres of foreign liquor from the vehicle, while around 200 cartons were found damaged.
Authorities are now examining video footage to identify individuals who removed goods from the truck. A case has been registered under Bihar's Prohibition and Excise Act against the truck owner, driver and other persons involved in the smuggling network.
