Race Intensifies For Sirmaur Council Chief Post

Political discussions have intensified in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district following the declaration of district council election results. The Bharatiya Janata Party secured a decisive majority by winning 13 of the 17 seats.

Since the chairperson's post is reserved for a Scheduled Caste woman, two BJP members have emerged as the leading contenders for the position.

Saroj Bala won from the Neri Kotli ward in Pachhad constituency, while Shivani Kumari emerged victorious from the Dadahu ward in the Sri Renukaji constituency.

Political observers believe that one of these two leaders is likely to become the next chairperson of the Sirmaur District Council.

The contest for the vice-chairperson's post is also gathering momentum. If Shivani Kumari is selected as chairperson, senior BJP leader Baldev Singh Bhandari, who won from Sarahan ward, is considered a strong contender for the deputy post.

If Saroj Bala is chosen as chairperson, the vice-chairperson's position may go to a representative from Shillai or Nahan, where the BJP is looking to strengthen regional representation.

The BJP secured 13 seats in the 17-member council, while the Congress won three seats and one seat went to an independent candidate.

Attention is now focused on BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal, whose decision is expected to determine the district council's new leadership.
