BJP Announces 6 Candidates for UP Legislative Council Election

The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced six authorised candidates for the 2026 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections. The party has released candidates for graduate and teacher constituencies, covering seats in Varanasi, Meerut, Allahabad-Jhansi, Agra and Gorakhpur-Faizabad.

According to the list announced by the BJP, Kedar Nath Singh has been named as the party's candidate from the Varanasi Graduate constituency. Dinesh Goyal will contest from the Meerut Graduate constituency, while Ashok Kumar Rathore has been named from the Allahabad-Jhansi Graduate constituency.

For the teacher constituencies, the BJP has announced Pramod Mishra from Varanasi Teachers, Hari Kishore Tiwari from Agra Teachers and Dhruv Kumar Tripathi from Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers.

The six candidates announced by the BJP are:

1. Varanasi Graduate — Kedar Nath Singh
2. Meerut Graduate — Dinesh Goyal
3. Allahabad-Jhansi Graduate — Ashok Kumar Rathore
4. Varanasi Teachers — Pramod Mishra
5. Agra Teachers — Hari Kishore Tiwari
6. Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers — Dhruv Kumar Tripathi

The Legislative Council elections for graduate and teacher constituencies are conducted through separate electorates. Graduate constituencies have registered voters who meet the prescribed graduate qualification requirements, while teacher constituencies have eligible registered teachers as voters.

The election process has already entered the nomination stage. According to the announced schedule, nominations began on September 29. Candidates can file their nomination papers until October 6. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on October 7, followed by the withdrawal period, which ends on October 9.

Voting is scheduled for October 23, while counting of votes is scheduled for October 27. The final list of candidates will become clear after the scrutiny and withdrawal stages are completed.

The BJP's announcement gives clarity about its candidates in the six constituencies where it has released names. The candidates will now proceed with the formal nomination process and subsequent election activities in their respective constituencies.

Dhruv Kumar Tripathi has been named from the Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers constituency. The constituency is among the teacher constituencies where registered eligible teachers participate in the election of their Legislative Council representative.

The graduate and teacher constituency elections are different from elections to the state Assembly. Their electoral rolls and eligible voter groups are separately defined under the election process. Candidates therefore focus their campaign activities on the specific electorate associated with each constituency.

With the BJP announcing six candidates, political activity in the concerned constituencies is expected to increase as the nomination deadline approaches. Other parties and independent candidates may also announce their candidates, after which the final contest in each constituency will become clearer.

The nomination, scrutiny and withdrawal stages are important parts of the election process. Candidates who remain in the contest after the withdrawal deadline will participate in the polling scheduled for October 23. Votes will then be counted on October 27.

The BJP's six announced candidates represent three graduate constituencies and three teacher constituencies. The names include Kedar Nath Singh from Varanasi Graduate, Dinesh Goyal from Meerut Graduate, Ashok Kumar Rathore from Allahabad-Jhansi Graduate, Pramod Mishra from Varanasi Teachers, Hari Kishore Tiwari from Agra Teachers and Dhruv Kumar Tripathi from Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers.
