Opposition Protests Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, Rahul Gandhi Climbs Barricade

Opposition parties intensified their protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations concerning changes in electoral rolls and issues related to the election process. Opposition MPs marched towards the Election Commission office in Delhi and demanded the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. Security arrangements were strengthened across several important areas of central Delhi in view of the protest.

The opposition march was stopped by security personnel before it could reach the Election Commission office. Police barricades were placed near the NITI Aayog office to prevent the protesters from moving further towards the Election Commission headquarters. Following the stoppage, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, along with other opposition leaders, sat down in protest.

The demonstration drew further attention when Rahul Gandhi was seen climbing a barricade while holding the national flag. Opposition leaders and MPs continued raising slogans and reiterating their demands. The protesters said that questions surrounding electoral rolls should be addressed and that greater transparency should be maintained in the election process.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also reached the protest site. Opposition MPs raised slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, including slogans accusing him of being involved in alleged irregularities relating to votes.

Congress MP Pawan Khera expressed strong criticism of the Chief Election Commissioner during the protest. He said that the opposition had not trusted Gyanesh Kumar earlier and claimed that the latest developments had further strengthened their concerns.

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav also raised concerns about the deletion of voters' names from electoral rolls. He argued that if large numbers of voters are removed from electoral lists and this affects the electoral outcome, it raises serious questions about the democratic process. He stressed the need to raise the issue and seek accountability.

Congress MP Vivek Tankha described the protest as a fight to protect democracy. He questioned the functioning of the Election Commission and alleged that the institution was working under the influence of the government. These statements represent the position and allegations of opposition leaders.

Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Hasan also raised questions about the functioning of the Election Commission. She referred to disagreements over decisions and claimed that consensus had not been reached on several occasions. Opposition parties have repeatedly questioned the impartiality of the Chief Election Commissioner and have demanded his removal.

The central issue raised by the opposition concerns alleged changes in electoral rolls and transparency in the electoral process. Opposition leaders have demanded clear answers regarding changes in voter lists and have called for safeguards to ensure that eligible voters are not wrongly removed from electoral rolls.

Large numbers of Delhi Police personnel were deployed around Jantar Mantar and nearby areas. Barricades were placed at several locations around the Election Commission office and along the route of the march. Security personnel monitored movement in the area and kept watch on people and vehicles.

Security arrangements were further strengthened to prevent any law-and-order problem during the demonstration. Police personnel were instructed to remain prepared to deal with any situation that could arise during the protest.

The demonstration comes amid an ongoing political debate over electoral rolls and the functioning of the Election Commission. Opposition parties have been repeatedly raising questions about the electoral process and have demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

For now, Rahul Gandhi's appearance on the barricade with the national flag and the opposition's protest have become prominent moments of the demonstration. After the march was stopped, opposition leaders remained at the site and continued raising their demands.
