A major health concern has emerged from Nirala Green Ark Society in Greater Noida West, where more than 100 residents reportedly became ill after consuming contaminated Ganga water supplied to the society. Around 70 children are said to be among those affected, creating panic among families living in the residential complex.
Residents said that several people started experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and fever over the past few days. Initially, many believed the illnesses were seasonal, but as the number of patients increased with similar symptoms, attention turned toward the water supply.
According to residents, laboratory testing of water samples confirmed the presence of coliform and E. coli bacteria. Health experts say these bacteria usually indicate contamination and can lead to serious gastrointestinal infections if contaminated water is consumed.
The society consists of 11 residential towers with nearly 1,640 families. Following the test results, concern has spread across the community, with many families switching to bottled or purified water for drinking and cooking.
Residents have alleged negligence in monitoring the water supply system and claimed that contaminated water continued to be supplied without timely inspection. They have accused both the Apartment Owners Association (AOA) and the Greater Noida Authority of failing to ensure safe drinking water.
People living in the society are demanding a detailed inspection of the water distribution system, cleaning of pipelines and storage tanks, and immediate restoration of safe drinking water. They have also sought accountability and action against those responsible if lapses are found.
Medical experts advise residents to consume only boiled or properly purified water during such situations. Anyone experiencing persistent vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or severe stomach pain should seek medical attention without delay.
