Saharanpur: A mosque situated inside the Collectorate premises in Saharanpur was demolished with bulldozers on Saturday morning following the decision of the District Judge’s court. The administration deployed multiple bulldozers at the site and strengthened security arrangements across the city in view of the possibility of any untoward incident.
The dispute surrounding the mosque had been continuing for several months. In March 2025, former Bajrang Dal provincial convener Vikas Tyagi had filed a complaint alleging that the mosque constructed inside the Collectorate premises was illegal. The complaint also alleged that commercial activities were being carried out on the premises, which could pose a security concern for the Collectorate complex.
The matter had been pending before the City Magistrate’s court for around one and a half years. In July, the court had declared the mosque illegal. The order was subsequently challenged before the District Judge’s court. Three days ago, the District Judge’s court upheld the City Magistrate’s order, paving the way for the administration to proceed with the action. Demolition Carried Out With Six Bulldozers
Following the court’s decision, the administration began the demolition operation early Saturday morning. Six bulldozers were reportedly deployed at the location. Police and administrative officials remained present during the operation as part of the security arrangements.
Rumours regarding the possible demolition had started circulating in the city since Friday night. Following the reports, several public representatives, including local politicians, expressed their views on social media. Authorities subsequently increased security arrangements across sensitive areas.
Iqra Hasan Placed Under House Arrest
Amid the developments, Kairana MP Iqra Hasan was placed under house arrest by the police. Statements regarding the matter were also issued by Saharanpur MP Imran Masood and other local public representatives.
As a precautionary measure, a heavy police force was deployed at several locations across the city. Authorities focused on maintaining law and order and preventing any situation from escalating during and after the demolition.
The mosque inside the Collectorate premises has now been demolished following the District Judge’s decision. Security arrangements remain a major focus for the administration as authorities continue to monitor the situation in the city.
