Deadly Mosque Shooting In San Diego Investigated As Suspected Hate Crime
A tragic shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego (ICSD) left three people dead on Monday, prompting authorities to investigate the incident as a possible hate crime. The attack took place at the mosque complex, which also includes a school and community facilities.

According to San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl, two male suspects, believed to be aged 17 and 19, were later discovered dead from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Officials confirmed that all three victims were adults, while children present at the school were safely evacuated and were not physically harmed.

Police stated that one of the victims, a security guard at the Islamic center, played a critical role in preventing the situation from becoming even more devastating.
Authorities revealed that the mother of one suspect had contacted police hours earlier, reporting her son missing, suicidal, and in possession of several weapons along with her vehicle. Investigators are now working to determine the motive and sequence of events leading up to the attack.

The Islamic Center of San Diego, located in the Clairemont neighborhood, is known as a place for worship, education, and community gatherings. Imam Taha Hassane strongly condemned the violence, describing the mosque as a peaceful and welcoming place for people of all backgrounds.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria assured the Muslim community that city authorities would increase protection for religious institutions and ensure public safety.
The incident has sparked nationwide concern amid growing reports of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim rhetoric across the United States. Several political leaders and officials, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and FBI Director Kash Patel, expressed condolences and pledged support for the investigation.

Law enforcement agencies across the country, including the NYPD, announced increased security measures around mosques and Islamic centers as a precaution following the shooting.
