Delhi Police's Special Cell has claimed to have foiled a major terror plot by busting an alleged Pakistan ISI-backed terror and arms smuggling network operating across Delhi and Punjab. Four suspects have been arrested during the operation.
Police said the accused were allegedly working under the instructions of a Pakistan-based handler identified as Shahzad Bhatti. Authorities recovered two foreign-made pistols, including a Turkish Zigana pistol, nine rounds of ammunition and five mobile phones from the suspects.
According to investigators, the operation was launched following technical surveillance and intelligence inputs. The first suspect, Shubdeep Singh alias Vishal, was arrested in Amritsar. His interrogation reportedly led to the arrest of Gurjant Singh alias Rishi, Sajan Singh alias Honey and Gaganpreet.
Police allege that Gaganpreet had conducted reconnaissance of police stations, police checkpoints and major religious sites in Delhi, recording videos that were allegedly sent to handlers in Pakistan. Investigators also claim he had been assigned to carry out firing at a location in Delhi to create panic.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the law, and further investigations are underway to identify the wider network, funding channels and possible accomplices.
