Five Feared Dead After Kolkata Warehouse Collapse, Rescue Continues

A major accident took place in Kolkata’s Taratala area on Wednesday after a shed at an under-construction warehouse collapsed, with at least five people feared dead and several others still trapped beneath the rubble.

The incident occurred around noon at a warehouse on Transport Depot Road near Brace Bridge. According to eyewitnesses, the structure suddenly gave way while workers were present at the site.

Police said a large number of labourers were working inside the facility when the collapse occurred. Initial reports suggest that around 60 workers may have been caught in the debris.

So far, four people have been rescued safely, while rescue teams continue searching for those still trapped.

Personnel from Kolkata Police, the Disaster Management Group (DMG), Civil Defence and the Fire Services Department have been deployed. Army officials are also assisting in the rescue operation.

Heavy cranes and machinery are being used to clear the debris as authorities race against time to locate survivors.
