Mumbai witnessed severe disruption after the first major monsoon rainfall flooded roads, railway tracks and subways across several parts of the city.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Wednesday, warning of further heavy rainfall in Mumbai. Yellow and Orange alerts have also been issued for several parts of Maharashtra.
Waterlogging in many areas affected daily commuting, with authorities restricting movement in flood-prone locations. The Everard Nagar subway was closed after being submerged, while traffic movement was impacted in areas including Saki Naka.
According to Central Railway, 24 local train services on the Trans Harbour Line were cancelled due to track-related issues caused by the weather. Train operations later resumed, although speed restrictions remain in affected sections.
Civic officials said the Andheri subway continues to face serious flooding issues. Authorities have deployed staff to prevent vehicles from entering waterlogged areas and to assist stranded commuters.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that all subways except the Andheri underpass remained operational. Western Railway reported that suburban train services on key routes, including the Churchgate-Dahanu corridor and Harbour Line, continued to operate normally.
BMC data showed that Mumbai recorded an average rainfall of 56 mm between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm on June 23. Several western suburban areas received significant rainfall during the night, worsening waterlogging conditions.
