India's Ministry of Home Affairs has designated 23 Pakistan-based individuals as terrorists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), citing their alleged involvement in cross-border terrorism and links with banned terror outfits.
According to the notification, the individuals are associated with organisations including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and, in one case, al-Qaeda and ISIS. They are accused of recruiting terrorists, facilitating infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir, arranging terror training, smuggling weapons through drones and planning attacks against Indian security forces.
The government stated that three of the listed individuals are close associates of LeT founder Hafiz Saeed. Some of those designated are also alleged to have been involved in the 2016 Nagrota Army camp attack and the 2018 Sunjuwan military station attack.
With the latest notification, the total number of individuals designated as terrorists under the UAPA has increased to 80. The designation empowers investigative agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), to freeze assets, block financial transactions and initiate legal proceedings against the listed individuals.
