Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Indonesia has resulted in several major agreements aimed at strengthening defence, technology and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
As part of the agreements, India will assist Indonesia in developing electronic voting machine (EVM) manufacturing capabilities. Indonesia has also decided to procure India's Astra air-to-air missiles following their operational success.
The two countries will deepen cooperation in critical minerals, with India planning investments in Indonesia's steel, nickel and rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing sectors to strengthen supply chains.
India will also provide additional batteries to support Indonesia's BrahMos missile systems as Jakarta continues to expand its missile inventory.
Both nations have agreed to jointly develop Sabang Port, located near the strategically important Strait of Malacca. The port is situated close to India's Great Nicobar infrastructure project and is expected to enhance regional connectivity and maritime cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi held bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Modi received a ceremonial welcome upon his arrival in Jakarta, with Indonesian Air Force fighter jets escorting his aircraft and traditional cultural performances marking the beginning of the official visit.
The visit is regarded as an important milestone in advancing defence cooperation, economic partnerships and regional strategic coordination between India and Indonesia.
