India and Japan have issued a strong joint statement condemning cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan, urging the international community to take immediate action against state-backed terror infrastructure, safe havens and financing networks.
The statement was released following bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in combating terrorism and enhancing regional security.
The two countries strongly condemned the April 22, 2025 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the November 10, 2025 car bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort. They called for those responsible, including planners, financiers and supporters, to be brought to justice without delay.
India and Japan also urged coordinated international action against UN-designated terrorist organisations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Al-Qaeda and ISIS. They stressed the need to dismantle terrorist safe havens, disrupt terror financing networks and prevent cross-border movement of terrorists.
Apart from counterterrorism, both leaders expressed concern over rising tensions in the East China Sea and South China Sea. They opposed any unilateral attempts to change the status quo through force or coercion and reaffirmed their support for freedom of navigation and adherence to international law.
