New Delhi: LPG consumers have received some relief after the deadline for completing the mandatory e-KYC process was extended from August 16 to August 23. The extension gives consumers an additional seven days to complete the verification process, particularly those who could not finish it because of technical problems, server issues or heavy crowds at LPG agencies.
However, the extension has not completely resolved the difficulties being faced by consumers. Many people are still struggling to complete their e-KYC because of repeated server outages, slow response from online systems and technical problems affecting digital platforms.
The situation has also created pressure at LPG dealerships. Consumers who are unable to complete the process online are visiting gas agencies in person, leading to long queues and extended waiting times. In some places, people have reportedly been waiting for hours for their turn, while there is still uncertainty over whether the process will be completed successfully once they reach the counter.
Deadline extended to August 23
The earlier deadline for completing LPG e-KYC was August 16. It has now been extended by seven days to August 23.
The extension is expected to provide additional time to consumers who were unable to complete the process within the earlier deadline. Many consumers had been attempting to complete their verification through digital platforms but were unable to do so because of technical disruptions.
The additional seven days could reduce some of the immediate pressure created by the earlier deadline. However, the effectiveness of the extension will largely depend on whether the technical issues affecting the e-KYC system are resolved.
If server problems continue, consumers may again face difficulties as the revised deadline approaches. A large number of people could once again attempt to complete the process during the final few days, potentially increasing pressure on both online systems and LPG dealerships.
Server problems remain a major concern
One of the biggest challenges for consumers has been the instability of the online system. Users attempting to complete e-KYC may encounter slow loading, interrupted sessions, failed verification or other technical errors.
Repeated attempts can be frustrating, particularly for consumers who have limited experience with online services. Some people are therefore choosing to visit LPG agencies directly for assistance.
The technical problems have created a chain reaction. When consumers cannot complete the process online, they turn to dealerships. As more people visit agencies, queues become longer and staff members have to handle a larger number of requests.
This has increased the workload for LPG dealers, while consumers continue to worry about completing the verification before the new deadline.
Pressure on LPG dealerships
LPG dealerships are also facing increased pressure because of the large number of consumers seeking help with e-KYC.
Dealers have reportedly been dealing with a growing backlog of pending requests. Technical problems can slow down the process significantly, and on some days a substantial portion of working hours may be affected by system-related disruptions.
Despite these difficulties, consumers continue to visit dealerships because they want to ensure that their verification is completed before the deadline.
The extension to August 23 has provided some additional breathing room, but dealers may still face difficulties in clearing the backlog if the technical problems continue.
What should LPG consumers do?
Consumers who have not yet completed their LPG e-KYC now have additional time until August 23. They do not need to panic, but they should avoid waiting until the final day.
Consumers can first try completing the process through the official digital service associated with their LPG connection. If the system is temporarily unavailable or the verification fails because of a technical problem, they can try again after some time.
If repeated attempts remain unsuccessful, consumers can contact their LPG distributor or dealership for assistance. They may be asked to provide the required identification and connection-related information so that the verification process can be completed through the available procedure.
Consumers should also remain alert against fraud. They should not share OTPs, banking information, passwords or other sensitive details with unknown callers or individuals claiming to provide e-KYC assistance.
Any suspicious message, call or request for payment in exchange for completing e-KYC should be treated cautiously. Consumers should rely on official communication and authorised service channels for verification-related assistance.
Will the deadline extension provide real relief?
The extension from August 16 to August 23 gives consumers an additional seven days, which is certainly helpful for those who were unable to complete the process earlier.
However, the real relief will depend on whether the technical problems are resolved. Additional time alone may not be sufficient if consumers continue to face server outages and failed online verification attempts.
There is also a possibility that a large number of consumers may wait until the final few days, creating another surge in demand at LPG dealerships and online systems.
For this reason, consumers who still need to complete e-KYC should try to do so as early as possible rather than waiting for the revised deadline.
At the same time, LPG agencies and service providers will need to ensure that digital systems remain stable and that sufficient support is available at dealerships. Clearing the existing backlog before August 23 will be important to prevent another last-minute rush.
The extension has therefore provided a temporary window of relief, but the larger issue remains the technical reliability of the e-KYC system. Consumers are now waiting for smoother services so that they can complete the mandatory verification without repeated attempts or long hours at gas agencies.
