A major industrial accident was reported from the Dahej GIDC area of Bharuch district in Gujarat after a powerful explosion at the plant of Vision Products Private Limited triggered a massive fire. The intensity of the blast was reportedly so high that the sound could be heard in areas located nearly 7 kilometres away from the factory.
Soon after the explosion, huge flames began rising from the factory premises, while a thick cloud of black smoke could be seen spreading into the sky. The incident caused panic among workers and people in nearby industrial units.
According to preliminary information, the explosion may have occurred in solvent drums stored inside the factory premises. However, the exact reason behind the blast has not yet been confirmed. Authorities are expected to investigate what caused the chemical material or solvent containers to catch fire and how the incident escalated into such a powerful explosion.
As the fire spread rapidly after the blast, the fire department and local administration were immediately alerted. More than seven fire tenders from Dahej and nearby areas were sent to the location. Firefighters used water as well as specialised foam to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other sections of the industrial facility.
The loud sound of the explosion reportedly created panic in the surrounding areas. Employees working in nearby industrial units also became alert after seeing the large flames and thick smoke rising from the factory. Given the presence of chemical and potentially flammable materials, authorities treated the situation as a serious industrial safety incident.
Local police, administrative officials and teams from the Industrial Safety and Health Department reached the site after receiving information about the incident. The area around the factory was secured as a precautionary measure so that firefighting and emergency operations could be carried out without obstruction.
One of the biggest reliefs in the incident is that, according to the initial information available, no death or injury has been reported so far. However, the extent of damage to factory machinery, chemical stocks, raw materials, equipment and infrastructure has not yet been established.
Officials are also expected to examine whether all required safety protocols were being followed for the storage and handling of solvents and other chemical substances at the facility. The exact cause of the explosion can only be established after the fire is completely brought under control and a detailed technical investigation is conducted.
Dahej GIDC is one of Gujarat’s major industrial zones and has a large concentration of chemical and manufacturing units. Therefore, incidents involving explosions and fires at chemical facilities are considered particularly serious from an industrial safety perspective.
For now, the immediate priority for the authorities is to completely extinguish the fire, secure the surrounding area and ensure that there is no further risk of an explosion or chemical-related incident. A detailed assessment of the damage and the exact circumstances leading to the blast is expected after the investigation.
