Momo Vendor Seriously Burned During Road-Clearing Drive in Jaipur

A controversy has erupted in Jaipur’s Ramnagariya area after a young woman selling momos sustained serious burn injuries during an altercation with police personnel.

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s family, the incident occurred on June 19 near Akshaya Patra Temple in Jagatpura. The victim, Reshu Gupta, was preparing her food cart for business and heating water to make momos when police personnel allegedly asked her to remove the cart immediately.

Family members claim that Reshu informed the officers that a vessel containing boiling water was on the cart and requested some time. However, they allege that the cart was pushed forcibly, causing the hot water to spill over her body.

The incident reportedly left her with severe burns on her shoulders, chest, thighs and other parts of her body. She was rushed for medical treatment following the accident.

Reshu’s sister, Khushboo, filed an FIR on June 22. The family stated that after the death of their father due to COVID-19 in 2020, Reshu’s momo stall became a major source of income for the household.

Police officials, however, have said that the matter is under investigation. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and gathering evidence to determine the exact sequence of events.

Both the victim’s family and the police have made allegations against each other, while the investigation continues.
