New Delhi: Several significant details have emerged in the investigation into the vehicle blast near Delhi’s Red Fort. According to the chargesheet filed by the investigation agency, the alleged mastermind, Umar-un-Nabi, had initially attempted to target the Lal Mandir area in Chandni Chowk.
However, the presence of heavy traffic and police personnel reportedly prevented him from carrying out the alleged plan. He then turned the vehicle towards the Red Fort, where an explosion took place shortly afterwards.
According to the details mentioned in the chargesheet, CCTV footage showed Umar-un-Nabi attempting to park the vehicle near Lal Mandir at around 6:37 pm on November 10. When the situation at the location did not appear favourable, he reportedly took a U-turn. Around 13 minutes later, at approximately 6:50 pm, the vehicle exploded near Gate Number Four of the Red Fort.
The investigation agency has described the incident as the first vehicle-based IED attack reported in Delhi.
Remote Mechanism Allegedly Hidden in a Shoe
One of the major revelations in the chargesheet concerns the alleged remote-control mechanism used to trigger the IED.
According to the investigation, the remote mechanism was concealed in the accused’s shoe. A shoe recovered near the vehicle was subjected to forensic examination. Investigators reportedly found a metal component connected to its heel, with traces associated with explosive substances.
DNA samples recovered from the vehicle were also examined. According to the chargesheet, the DNA profile was matched with samples from Umar-un-Nabi’s parents, helping investigators establish his identity.
Room Allegedly Kept Extremely Cold to Store Explosive Material
The chargesheet also describes the precautions allegedly taken by Umar while handling explosive material.
According to investigators, he kept his room at a very low temperature. Witnesses reportedly noticed a strong smell coming from the room.
The chargesheet further states that he had purchased water-filled bags to help preserve the prepared explosive material. Statements recorded during the investigation allegedly indicate that water was regularly added to the mixture to keep it stable.
Allegedly Collected Urine While Hiding in Nuh
Another unusual detail mentioned in the chargesheet relates to the period when Umar allegedly went into hiding in Nuh following police action.
According to the statement of a female member of the house where he was staying, Umar allegedly avoided going outside to urinate and instead collected urine in plastic bags. This reportedly caused a strong smell inside the room.
The investigation also allegedly recovered a document describing a method for preparing urea nitrate-based explosive material. According to the chargesheet, the document mentioned urine as one possible source for obtaining urea.
11 Killed and 29 Injured in the Blast
According to the chargesheet, 11 people were killed and 29 others injured in the explosion near the Red Fort.
The post-mortem reports reportedly attributed the deaths to the effects of a high-intensity blast wave. The explosion also caused damage to surrounding structures and property.
The estimated value of the damage has been put at around Rs 17.7 lakh, according to the investigation.
Material Linked to Terror Activities Allegedly Recovered
The chargesheet also mentions the alleged recovery of material connected with terrorist activities from Umar and his associates.
Investigators have claimed that the recovered material included a publication containing operational information related to explosives, weapons, vehicles, arson and remote mechanisms for IEDs.
According to the investigation agency, these materials provided important clues about the alleged preparations, planning and execution of the attack.
Clothes Purchased Days Before the Blast
The chargesheet further states that on November 7, Umar allegedly purchased several items of clothing from a shop in Nuh after making a cash payment.
The items reportedly included a new T-shirt, a shirt described in the chargesheet by its colour, and green cargo trousers.
Investigators are now examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence, witness statements and recovered material to establish the alleged sequence of events and the wider conspiracy behind the blast.

The vehicle explosion near the Red Fort raised serious security concerns in the national capital. The chargesheet provides details about the alleged planning, the initial target, the change in location, the handling of explosive material and the alleged use of a remote mechanism.
