The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Bhopal has arrested Satyabhan Sansi, an alleged member of the notorious Sansi gang, after he remained absconding for 11 years. The accused was brought to Bhopal from Guwahati Central Jail on a production warrant.

Police said Satyabhan, a resident of Haryana's Bhiwani district, was wanted in 15 pending arrest warrants across the country, including 13 registered by Bhopal GRP and two by Itarsi GRP. A reward of ₹54,000 had been announced for his arrest.

According to investigators, the Sansi gang targeted passengers travelling in general and sleeper coaches. The gang allegedly used blades or knives to cut open bags and trolley luggage before stealing cash, jewellery and other valuables.

Police believe the gang carried out similar thefts in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Assam. Despite repeated raids in Haryana, the accused managed to evade arrest for years.

The breakthrough came after cyber surveillance tracked his mobile phone to Guwahati. Further investigation revealed that he had already been arrested in another criminal case and was lodged in Guwahati Central Jail.

Following a production warrant issued by a Bhopal court, the accused was brought back to Madhya Pradesh. Police are now questioning him about other members of the Sansi gang, its criminal network and train theft cases reported in several states.
