Police in Odisha's Sundargarh district have achieved a major breakthrough against interstate drug trafficking after intercepting a vehicle carrying a large quantity of cannabis. The operation involved a dramatic chase that ended with the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of 90 kilograms of the banned substance.
According to officials, law enforcement received intelligence about a suspicious vehicle transporting narcotics through the region. Acting swiftly, a special police team established checkpoints and surveillance near a strategic route to intercept the vehicle.
When officers attempted to stop the car, the occupants allegedly accelerated and tried to escape. This triggered a high-speed pursuit, with police vehicles following the suspects over a considerable distance before successfully surrounding and stopping the car.
A detailed search of the vehicle led to the discovery of multiple packages containing approximately 90 kilograms of cannabis. The contraband was immediately seized and both occupants were taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly attached a fake registration plate to the vehicle in an attempt to avoid detection. Authorities believe the shipment was intended for distribution outside the state.
The arrested individuals are reported to be residents of Uttar Pradesh. Police have registered a case under relevant narcotics laws and launched further investigations to identify the source of the consignment and any links to a wider trafficking network.
Officials say efforts are underway to uncover other individuals connected to the operation and determine the full extent of the interstate smuggling racket.
