Prashant Kishor targets CM after Bankipur victory

Patna: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor secured a significant victory in the Bankipur Assembly by-election, triggering fresh political debate in Bihar. Soon after the results were announced, Kishor criticized the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, while the Chief Minister extended his congratulations and said he respected the people's mandate.

Addressing the media after his victory, Prashant Kishor said the by-election was not merely about electing an MLA but also reflected public opinion on the current Bihar government and its leadership. He claimed that the verdict indicated the need for the BJP's central leadership to reconsider its leadership strategy in the state.

Kishor argued that the people of Bihar were looking for better governance and stronger leadership. According to him, political parties should treat the Bankipur result as a message from the electorate rather than just another electoral outcome.

Earlier, Prashant Kishor had also stated that no political stronghold remains permanent and that public sentiment has the power to change long-established electoral trends. He said the result demonstrated that voters were willing to support an alternative political platform.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary congratulated Prashant Kishor through a social media post. He stated that in a democracy, the people's verdict is supreme and deserves complete respect. The Chief Minister wished Kishor success and acknowledged the decision of the voters.

The by-election was held after the resignation of senior BJP leader Nitin Naveen from the Bankipur Assembly seat. The BJP fielded Neeraj Kumar Sinha, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal nominated Rekha Gupta. Prashant Kishor entered the contest as the Jan Suraaj candidate, making it a high-profile triangular contest.

According to the Election Commission's results, Prashant Kishor received 64,151 votes, BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha secured 44,827 votes, and RJD candidate Rekha Gupta polled 14,273 votes. Kishor won the election by a margin of 19,324 votes.

Political observers believe the victory has strengthened Jan Suraaj's position in Bihar politics and could influence the state's political landscape ahead of the next Assembly elections.
