Security forces achieved a major success in Sopore area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir after uncovering a militant hideout during a joint operation.
Acting on intelligence inputs the Indian Army Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a coordinated search operation and cordoned off the area.
After several hours of searching security personnel discovered an underground bunker. During the excavation they recovered a significant quantity of weapons ammunition and explosive materials.
Senior Army officials said the recovered arms indicate that militants were planning a major attack but the timely operation foiled their plans before they could be executed.
Search operations are continuing in the area while several suspects are being questioned. Police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and forensic experts are examining the recovered materials to trace their origin and network.
Officials said this is the fourth major recovery in Sopore over the past month and described it as a significant achievement in the ongoing anti terrorism operations in Kashmir. Residents have also been urged to report any suspicious activity to security agencies immediately.
