US-Iran Peace Deal Signed, Trump Says 'It Was Not Easy'

Washington: The United States and Iran have taken a major step towards easing years of tensions by formally signing a historic peace agreement. US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian finalized the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the G7 Summit in France.

The agreement was signed during a special event held at the Palace of Versailles. Iran’s Foreign Ministry also confirmed the digital signatures, stating that the agreement has officially entered into force.

Speaking after the signing, Trump said in a video released from the event, “The agreement between Iran and the United States has been signed. I signed it in Versailles. It was not easy, but we got it done.”

Under the agreement, both countries have committed to ending hostilities and reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping. The move is expected to reduce regional tensions and provide stability to global energy markets.

According to US officials, Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf had already signed the preliminary framework earlier. The final approval, however, was completed on Friday.

The agreement is being viewed as a significant turning point in US-Iran relations, although diplomatic efforts on broader regional and security issues are expected to continue.
