A tragic road accident took place in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, early Saturday morning when a speeding Maruti Eeco rammed into the rear of a parked DCM truck. The seven occupants were travelling from Delhi-NCR to Nainital and Jim Corbett National Park.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was travelling at nearly 100 km/h. The impact completely destroyed the front portion of the vehicle, leaving four occupants dead on the spot and three others critically injured.
Police, ambulance and rescue teams rushed to the scene and carried out a difficult rescue operation to free those trapped inside the vehicle.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination.
Police said all seven victims were residents of Delhi-NCR and were between 30 and 35 years of age. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
