A heartbreaking incident has emerged from Maharashtra's Palghar district, where a family was forced to remain on the roof of their flooded home for nearly four hours with the body of their deceased mother.
The incident took place in Devipada village after 55-year-old Anusya Manohar Leelaka passed away. While the family was preparing for her funeral, heavy rainfall triggered severe flooding, causing water levels to rise rapidly inside the house.
With no safe way out, the family climbed onto the tin roof carrying the woman's body and waited for help. They remained stranded for around four hours before the floodwaters began to recede.
Once conditions improved, the family was rescued safely. The final rites, which had been delayed because of the flooding, were performed after the water level dropped.
The incident has sparked anger among local residents, who alleged that the administration failed to provide timely assistance. Villagers claimed the family received no immediate help during the emergency, raising concerns over disaster response in the flood-hit region.
