Mobile Internet Suspended for 8 Hours Near Jantar Mantar

*New Delhi:* The Union Home Ministry has ordered the temporary suspension of mobile internet services in the Jantar Mantar area for eight hours on Thursday. According to the official order, all mobile internet services within a *1.5-kilometre radius* of Jantar Mantar will remain suspended from *4:00 PM until 12:00 midnight*.

The order states that the decision has been taken to maintain public safety, preserve law and order, and prevent any activities that could disturb peace or spread misinformation. The suspension has been issued under the provisions of the *Telecommunications Act, 2023*, with approval from the competent authority.

Following the directive, Delhi Police and telecom service providers have been instructed to implement the suspension during the specified period. Mobile data services across all technologies will remain unavailable in the affected zone.

The decision comes after several days of demonstrations in and around Jantar Mantar, where authorities have reported repeated security challenges and heightened tensions. Officials said the temporary restriction is a preventive measure aimed at avoiding the rapid spread of rumours or misinformation through digital platforms during large public gatherings.

Security arrangements in the area have also been strengthened. Additional police personnel have been deployed, barricades have been reinforced, and movement around sensitive locations is being closely monitored.

Authorities said the situation will be reviewed once the suspension period ends. If conditions remain normal, mobile internet services are expected to be restored. Citizens have been advised to rely only on official information and avoid circulating unverified reports.
