A tragic road accident took place in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday, claiming the lives of Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of gangster Atiq Ahmed, and one of his companions. The accident occurred near Khilli village under the Poonch police station area on the Jhansi-Kanpur National Highway.
According to preliminary information, Aban Ahmed was travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi to meet his elder brother Ali Ahmed who is currently lodged in Jhansi District Jail. During the journey, the Creta SUV reportedly lost control and crashed into a road divider. The impact was severe, leaving the front portion of the vehicle completely damaged.
Local residents informed the police immediately after the accident. Rescue teams reached the spot, removed the occupants from the damaged vehicle, and shifted them to a nearby Community Health Centre. Doctors declared Aban Ahmed and his companion Ahjam, also known as Sonu, dead on arrival.
Three other passengers, including Mohammad Zaid and Umar, sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored by medical authorities.
Senior police officials confirmed the deaths and said that an investigation has been initiated. Initial findings suggest that overspeeding and loss of vehicle control may have caused the accident. However, officials stated that the exact cause will be determined only after a detailed investigation.
Police have collected evidence from the accident site and are also examining whether any mechanical failure contributed to the crash. Statements of the injured passengers will also form part of the investigation.
This is the third major incident linking Atiq Ahmed's family to Jhansi. In April 2023, Atiq's son Asad Ahmed was killed in a police encounter in Jhansi. Later, Ali Ahmed was shifted to Jhansi District Jail. The latest accident involving Aban Ahmed has once again drawn public attention to the district.
