Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's helicopter made an emergency landing in Kolaghat in Purba Medinipur district on Tuesday after weather conditions deteriorated during his journey. The Chief Minister and all other people travelling in the helicopter were reported to be safe.

Adhikari was travelling from Kolkata to Keshpur in Paschim Medinipur, where he was scheduled to attend a programme commemorating revolutionary freedom fighter Khudiram Bose. Due to the deteriorating weather, the helicopter was brought down safely at Kolaghat.

 Bad Weather Forces Emergency Landing

According to officials, the helicopter encountered unfavourable weather conditions while travelling towards Keshpur. The pilot decided to prioritise safety and land the helicopter at Kolaghat rather than continue the flight in difficult weather.

The decision ensured that the Chief Minister and other passengers remained safe. After the helicopter landed, arrangements were made for the Chief Minister to continue his journey by road.

 Chief Minister Continued With Scheduled Programme

Despite the disruption to his air travel, Suvendu Adhikari did not cancel his scheduled programme in Keshpur.

He travelled by road to Paschim Medinipur, where he attended an event organised to mark the death anniversary of revolutionary freedom fighter Khudiram Bose.

The Chief Minister paid tribute to Khudiram Bose and remembered his contribution to India's freedom struggle.

His visit to Keshpur was part of a wider schedule involving programmes in several districts of the state.

Another issue concerning the helicopter was also reported before the flight.

According to information available about the incident, a technical problem was noticed in the helicopter at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata before it was scheduled to fly towards Keshpur.

The technical issue was reportedly fixed promptly, following which the helicopter took off. The subsequent deterioration in weather conditions led to the emergency landing at Kolaghat.

Thus, the Chief Minister's journey faced both a technical issue before departure and difficult weather conditions during the flight. However, neither situation resulted in any reported injury.

Following the emergency landing, the Chief Minister continued his journey by road.

The decision to switch from air travel to road travel allowed him to maintain his scheduled programme despite the disruption caused by the weather.

Security arrangements were maintained during the road journey as the Chief Minister travelled towards Keshpur.
