Patna. A major political protest took place in Patna on Wednesday as the Rashtriya Janata Dal organised a Raj Bhavan march over issues concerning students, young people and the examination system.

The march was led by Bihar Assembly opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav and was attended by senior RJD leaders, legislators, party office-bearers and a large number of workers.

The march began from the JP Golambar area near Gandhi Maidan and proceeded towards Raj Bhavan. In view of the planned demonstration, the Patna administration deployed additional police personnel at several important locations.

The security arrangements covered areas around Gandhi Maidan, JP Golambar, Dak Bungalow Chowk and routes leading towards Raj Bhavan.

 Police detain Tejashwi Yadav

As the protesters moved towards Raj Bhavan, police placed barricades to prevent the procession from moving further.

The situation became tense when protesters attempted to proceed beyond the barricades. Police used water cannons to disperse or control the crowd.

Tejashwi Yadav was subsequently detained by the police. He was taken beyond the barricading and later placed in a vehicle.

Other RJD workers accompanying him were also stopped from moving forward. A large number of party workers were present around the vehicle and the party bus during the detention.

Slogans raised outside BJP office

The bus carrying Tejashwi Yadav and other RJD workers reportedly passed near the BJP office.

During this movement, RJD workers raised slogans outside the BJP office. Police personnel continued to monitor the situation and attempted to prevent the gathering from escalating further.

 Tejashwi Yadav attacks the government

Tejashwi Yadav criticised the government over the use of water cannons against protesters.

He alleged that the police action was carried out on the instructions of the state leadership and said such measures would not weaken the protest.

The RJD leader argued that students and young people were increasingly raising their voices over issues concerning their rights and future.

He also maintained that police action alone could not suppress political opposition or public demands.

RJD MLA raises allegations over police action

RJD MLA Bhai Virendra also criticised the police response.

He claimed that students and young people taking part in protests were unarmed and were demonstrating over their rights. He raised allegations of the use of force against protesters and questioned whether such action was justified.

He also made allegations regarding the use of firearms during the earlier protest-related events.

 BJP calls the march political

The BJP criticised the RJD demonstration and described it as a political exercise.

The Janata Dal United also reacted to the march.

Party spokesperson Neeraj Kumar criticised Tejashwi Yadav and said political opposition was legitimate but should not compromise the dignity of the national flag.

A large number of RJD workers were seen carrying national flags during the demonstration. The JDU raised concerns regarding the use and handling of the national flag during political protests.

### Lalu Yadav had appealed to workers

Before the march, RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav had reportedly appealed to young people and party workers to participate in large numbers.

The party leadership highlighted issues concerning students and the future of young people as major reasons for organising the demonstration.

RJD leaders called for democratic expression of grievances and accused the government of failing to adequately address concerns related to students and examinations.

 Administration makes extensive security arrangements

The Patna administration had already placed the city on alert ahead of the march.

Additional police personnel were deployed around Gandhi Maidan, JP Golambar, Dak Bungalow Chowk and other important routes leading towards Raj Bhavan.

Senior administrative and police officials monitored the arrangements and issued instructions to personnel deployed at different points.

The primary objective of the administration was to maintain law and order and prevent the protesters from entering sensitive areas.

 Government says protest is a democratic right

The state government said political parties have the right to hold demonstrations through democratic means.

The government also maintained that it remains sensitive to students' demands and that work is being undertaken to improve the education and examination system.
