The political controversy surrounding the alleged use of pellet guns during a student protest in Delhi has intensified after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in outside the Parliament Street Police Station on Friday.

Gandhi was accompanied by 19-year-old student Sahil Lochav, who has alleged that he suffered pellet injuries during the July 20 protest. Gandhi demanded that the police formally register a First Information Report and investigate those responsible for the alleged use of force.

Congress leaders have argued that the complaint should be formally recorded and that those responsible should face legal action. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also joined Rahul Gandhi during the protest, according to reports.

 BJP calls it 'politics of anarchy'

The BJP strongly criticised Rahul Gandhi's protest at the police station. BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad accused Gandhi of engaging in what he described as the politics of anarchy and questioned the propriety of staging a sit-in at a police station.

The BJP argued that complaints and allegations should be dealt with through established legal procedures rather than through political demonstrations outside a police station. The party described Gandhi's action as an attempt to exert political pressure on law-enforcement authorities.

Rahul Gandhi has cited Sahil Lochav's injuries while demanding an FIR. Gandhi claimed that medical examinations found a large number of pellets in the student's body and that his eye was seriously affected.

Reports have previously said that Sahil suffered pellet-like injuries during the July 20 protest and required medical treatment for an injury to his eye.

Gandhi has argued that if the police deny using pellet guns, then a formal investigation should establish how the injuries occurred and who was responsible.

He has also alleged that police officials told him they could not register an FIR because of instructions from higher authorities. This remains an allegation by Gandhi and the Congress, while Delhi Police has denied that it used pellet guns against protesters.

The controversy stems from a July 20 march by students from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament. The demonstration later saw confrontation between protesters and security personnel.

Some protesters subsequently alleged that pellet guns were used during crowd-control action. The allegations have since triggered political demands for an investigation and accountability.

The nature of the injuries suffered by some protesters has also become part of the dispute. Independent reporting and expert assessments have suggested that some injuries were consistent with pellet-gun firing, while Delhi Police has denied using such weapons.
