New Delhi: Delhi Police has prepared a new strategy to strengthen security arrangements ahead of major protests and demonstrations in the national capital. Under the revised system, the police will gather detailed information about various aspects of a proposed protest instead of limiting its assessment to the expected size of the crowd.

According to police sources, the Intelligence Wing and Special Branch have been directed to collect information on at least 10 important points before major demonstrations. The information will be analysed in advance and used to prepare security arrangements, police deployment and law-and-order measures.

The move comes after recent demonstrations raised concerns about the availability of adequate advance intelligence. Police officials believe that information about organisers, participating groups, expected routes and logistical arrangements can help authorities prepare more effectively.

Increased Vigilance After Jantar Mantar Incident

The new strategy comes after the events surrounding a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20. Tensions were reported during the demonstration, and several police personnel were reportedly injured.

There were also allegations of stone-pelting at police personnel during the protest. Following the incident, police authorities emphasised the need for stronger intelligence gathering and better advance assessment before large demonstrations.

Under the new system, police will try to determine how many people are expected to participate in a demonstration and from which states or regions they may be travelling to Delhi.

The Special Branch will also analyse the organisations and groups involved in the protest. Officials will examine the role of key organisers, the main demands of the movement and the support it may receive from different groups.

Such information can help authorities plan police deployment and security arrangements around the protest site.
