Canada T20 World Cup match under ICC probe amid corruption allegations
The International Cricket Council ICC has launched an investigation into alleged corruption involving Cricket Canada, including scrutiny of Canada's T20 World Cup match against New Zealand national cricket team.

The match, played in Chennai during the tournament hosted by India and Sri Lanka, has come under the spotlight following allegations raised in a recent documentary. Canada lost the game by eight wickets, but specific moments during the match have drawn attention from investigators.

According to reports, suspicion centers around a particular over bowled by Canada captain Dilpreet Bajwa. The over included a no-ball, a wide delivery, and conceded 15 runs, raising concerns over irregularities in gameplay.

The ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit has acknowledged the allegations and confirmed it is reviewing the claims. Andrew Ephgrave, interim general manager of the ICC’s Integrity Unit, stated that officials are aware of the issues raised and are examining them in line with standard procedures.

The controversy extends beyond the match itself. A reported phone conversation involving former Canada coach Khurram Chohan suggests that senior figures within Cricket Canada may have pressured team management over player selection decisions. These claims have intensified concerns about governance and transparency within the organization.

In response, Cricket Canada said it is taking the allegations seriously and has committed to reviewing all concerns thoroughly. The board emphasized its stance against corruption, including any links to match-fixing or external influence.

The ICC’s investigation is ongoing and could have significant implications for Cricket Canada and the integrity of international cricket, particularly as the sport continues to expand globally.
