Thunder overpower Lakers again as Pistons edge Cavaliers in NBA semifinals

Thunder take full control against Lakers

The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 125-107 to claim a commanding 2-0 lead in their Western Conference semifinal series. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 22 points, while Chet Holmgren added 22 points and nine rebounds in another dominant performance by the defending champions.

The Lakers started strongly and briefly led in the third quarter, but Oklahoma City’s aggressive defence and fast transition play turned the game around. The Thunder capitalised on 21 Lakers turnovers and produced a decisive 22-5 scoring run in the second half.

LeBron James scored 23 points in his 300th playoff appearance, while Austin Reaves led the Lakers with 31 points. However, the absence of injured Luka Doncic continued to affect Los Angeles offensively.

Pistons extend lead over Cavaliers

The Detroit Pistons also moved 2-0 ahead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 107-97.

Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 25 points and 10 assists, scoring 12 points in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory. Detroit’s defence once again proved crucial as they controlled the pace for most of the game.

Cleveland briefly took the lead early in the final quarter, but the Pistons quickly responded and regained control. Donovan Mitchell scored 31 points for the Cavaliers, while Jarrett Allen contributed 22 points in the losing effort.

Series shifts for crucial Games 3 and 4

Both playoff series will now move to new venues for Games 3 and 4. The Lakers return home needing victories to stay competitive against the Thunder, while the Cavaliers face growing pressure as they prepare to host Detroit.

Oklahoma City and Detroit now hold strong momentum and will look to push their opponents closer to elimination in the upcoming games.
